Sukabumi has a way of making a trip feel longer than originally planned. You can start the morning surrounded by cool mountain forest, stand in front of a dramatic waterfall in the afternoon, and end the day watching the sun disappear over the Indian Ocean.
That variety is what makes Sukabumi so interesting. Its attractions are not only numerous but also remarkably different from one another. Think geoparks, mountain lakes, waterfalls, surfing beaches, turtle conservation areas and natural hot springs.
If you are planning your next journey, these eight places to visit in Sukabumi deserve a place on your itinerary.
Short on Time? Start Here
Sukabumi Regency covers a large area, so trying to fit every attraction into one day is rarely a good idea. Choose your destination based on the experience you want instead.
Situ Gunung: Step into the Forest and Forget the City for a While
If you want to begin your Sukabumi trip somewhere cool and green, Situ Gunung is an easy choice. The area combines mountain forest, a lake, walking trails and the suspension bridge that has become one of its best-known attractions.
The experience is not only about crossing the bridge. Walking through the forest, listening to the surrounding nature and continuing towards Curug Sawer make Situ Gunung much more enjoyable when you are not rushing.
Ciletuh Geopark: See Sukabumi on a Much Bigger Scale
Ciletuh is not simply one attraction. It forms part of the Ciletuh–Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark and offers a landscape that is almost impossible to appreciate through just one stop.
From viewpoints around Panenjoan, you can see a vast natural amphitheatre opening towards Ciletuh Bay. The wider area also contains waterfalls, hills, beaches and geological sites that tell a much longer story about the landscape.
Cimarinjung Waterfall: A Dramatic Stop Inside Ciletuh
Among the waterfalls scattered across the Ciletuh area, Cimarinjung is one of the easiest to remember. Water falls from a massive rock wall surrounded by greenery, creating a landscape that feels much wilder than a typical city waterfall.
The journey there is also part of the experience, taking you through rural scenery and the geopark landscape before the large cliffs eventually come into view.
Cikaso Waterfall: One of Sukabumi's Most Memorable Waterfalls
Cikaso offers a different sense of scale. Water cascading from a large cliff into the pool below creates an impressive natural scene, particularly when the water flow is strong.
The surrounding greenery makes it a rewarding stop for travellers who come to Sukabumi specifically for nature rather than simply looking for another photo spot.
Ujung Genteng: Where the Road Trip Meets the Ocean
After a long journey through southern Sukabumi, Ujung Genteng completely changes the atmosphere. The coastline, wide horizon, fishing villages and slower pace make this an ideal place to stop for the night.
Instead of arriving and immediately turning back, use Ujung Genteng as a base for exploring nearby beaches and the Pangumbahan turtle conservation area.
Pangumbahan Turtle Conservation: Travel with a Little More Responsibility
Not far from Ujung Genteng lies the Pangumbahan turtle conservation area. It offers a different experience because the visit is not only about seeing beautiful scenery but also understanding why this coastline is an important habitat for sea turtles.
What visitors can observe depends on conditions, season and management rules. As this is a conservation area, the most meaningful experience comes from following instructions and allowing wildlife to behave naturally.
Cimaja Beach: Sukabumi for Travellers Chasing Waves
While many beaches are associated with relaxing on the sand, Cimaja has a different energy. The beach is known for its waves and has long attracted the surfing community.
Even if you do not surf, sitting along the coast and watching surfers wait for the next wave can be enjoyable in itself. Its location also makes Cimaja easy to combine with Palabuhanratu and Cisolok.
Cisolok Geyser: An Unexpected Way to End the Trip
After forests, waterfalls and beaches, Cisolok offers something completely different through its naturally heated geothermal water.
The hot springs make an interesting stop while exploring western Sukabumi, especially if your itinerary already includes Palabuhanratu or Cimaja.
Do Not Plan Sukabumi Like a Trip Inside One Small City
One of the easiest mistakes when planning a Sukabumi trip is looking at every attraction on a map and assuming they are close together. Sukabumi Regency is actually very large.
A much more comfortable approach is to choose one main area for each trip.
Choose this area for forests, cooler weather and a nature trip that is relatively straightforward to plan.
Ideal as a dedicated road trip for dramatic geopark scenery, waterfalls and expansive landscapes.
An overnight stay is more practical because of the distances involved and allows you to avoid rushing through the journey.
A good combination for beaches, surfing, sunset and a natural hot-spring experience.

- Choose the area before choosing individual attractions. Do not try to fit Situ Gunung, Ujung Genteng and Ciletuh into one day because they are located in different parts of Sukabumi.
- Check the weather before travelling. Rain can affect road conditions, waterfall trails, beaches and mountain attractions.
- Start early. Some destinations require considerable travel time and are much easier to enjoy when you reach them before the afternoon.
- Carry some cash. Digital payments may not always be available at smaller businesses or nature attractions.
- Wear appropriate footwear. Waterfall trails, rocks, wet ground and forest paths are safer with shoes that provide good grip.
- Respect conservation areas and nature. Do not leave rubbish, damage vegetation, disturb wildlife or enter areas closed to visitors.
- Do not force too many places into one itinerary. Sukabumi is much more enjoyable as a relaxed road trip than as a checklist of attractions.
Sukabumi Deserves More Than a Quick Stop
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Sukabumi is how quickly the scenery can change. From the lake and forests of Situ Gunung, the journey can take you through the vast landscapes of Ciletuh, dramatic waterfalls in the south and eventually to beaches facing the Indian Ocean.
You do not need to see everything in one trip. In fact, Sukabumi is better when you choose one area, explore it slowly and keep another part of the region as a reason to return.
If it is your first visit, start with the place that best matches your travel style. After that, your list of Sukabumi destinations will probably grow on its own.
